Disability Determination Services (DDS) is a division of the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Funded primarily by the federal government’s Social Security Administration (SSA), DDS makes medical determinations for Social Security and state Medicaid Disability claims.

NICHD is a federal agency which looks into what causes learning disabilities, how to identify them, and ways to treat them. The institute also studies typical learning processes and the effectiveness of different treatments for learning disabilities.

Provides leadership, public awareness, and grants to support research and innovative practices in learning disabilities.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducts and supports research in the normal and disordered processes of hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, and language.

The Division of Services for the Blind provides services to people who are visually impaired, blind and deaf-blind to help them reach their goals of independence and employment.

The Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing works to ensure that all Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Deaf-Blind North Carolinians have the ability to communicate their needs and to receive information easily and effectively in all aspects of their lives, especially their health and well-being.

The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS) helps people with disabilities achieve their goals for employment and independence.
