Oculus VR (Meta)

Oculus (Meta) User Agreement

Oculus (Meta) User Agreement:

The Oculus/Meta is intended to support academic work and technology enrichment for Beaufort CCC students, faculty, and staff.

In submitting a request for the Oculus (Meta), I agree to the following terms and assume responsibility for using the Oculus (Meta) and its equipment:

  • The Oculus (Meta) VR can only be reserved by current Beaufort CCC students, staff, and faculty.
  • You may reserve the Oculus for up to 1 hour for an individual session (no more than 2 students at a time). Walk-in reservations may be accepted if there is availability; however, making a reservation is strongly encouraged.
  • Submitting a reservation request DOES NOT guarantee a reservation. A librarian will contact you with a confirmed reservation.
  • Back-to-back and/or multiple reservations by a group may be canceled by library staff if the Oculus is in high demand.
  • If after 15 minutes, a reservation holder fails to appear, the reservation can be canceled by library staff.
  • You can submit a reservation request for the Oculus up to 2 weeks in advance. Reservations submitted for times beyond 2 weeks will not be confirmed until they fall within the allowable time frame.
  • Past Oculus reservation information is kept for statistical purposes and can be disclosed to law enforcement upon request.
  • The Oculus will be sanitized and its data cleared after each use. Users are not permitted to sanitize the Oculus or clear its data for any reason.
  • Apps are pre-loaded on the Oculus for users. If you have a suggested app for purchase, please speak to library staff at the desk. Students are NOT permitted to purchase apps at any time.
  • Do not log out of the Beaufort CCC Library account on the Oculus. Doing so may ban users from your future use of the Oculus.
  • Users of virtual reality, including the Oculus headsets, may experience dizziness or unsettling feelings at any point during play. You are using the virtual reality equipment at your own risk. New users to virtual reality are advised to sit until they are comfortable with the device.

Oculus (Meta) Content

Virtual Reality (VR) allows students to travel to other countries, explore inside the human body, dive deep into the ocean, or experiment in a chemistry lab -- all without leaving the classroom. Once a student puts on the VR headset, they are transported into a 360° view that brings the curriculum alive. While VR can also be used for interactive gaming, your Beaufort County Community College librarians love the instructional opportunities that are open through virtual reality. Please contact the library for more information 252-940-6282.
